5 Waiver Wire Steals You Need to Add Before Week 2

If you're reading this on Sunday morning and you still haven't touched your waiver wire, you're already losing. The first week of the 2026 NFL season reshuffled everything we thought we knew, and the managers who strike fast on the names below are the ones who'll be laughing at trade deadline time. We've done the work — here are the five adds we'd be sprinting to claim right now, ranked by how urgently you need to act.

1. Kaelon Black, RB, San Francisco 49ers

Let's start with the loudest alarm bell on the wire. Black is the most-added player we've tracked in the last 48 hours for a reason — nearly half a million managers have already moved. If he's still sitting in your league, your leaguemates are asleep. The 49ers' backfield has been a fantasy goldmine for years, and any time a back there carves out a clear role, you add first and ask questions later. Black isn't a handcuff dart throw — we think he's earned enough early-season work to be a legitimate flex play. Don't wait for Week 3 confirmation. That ship will be long gone.

2. Chris Bell, WR, Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins' receiver room has been a carousel of opportunity since Tyreek Hill's usage started declining, and Bell looks like the latest player to step into a real target share. Over 145,000 adds in 48 hours tells us the fantasy community has spotted something, and we agree. Miami's offense is built on spreading the ball in space, and a slot-capable wideout who can win underneath against soft zone coverage is exactly what Bell appears to be. We'd be adding him in every 12-team league where he's available and stashing him on the bench as a high-upside WR3/flex with genuine week-winning potential by Week 4.

3. Tre Tucker, WR, Las Vegas Raiders

Here's our contrarian take for the week: Tre Tucker might be the most underrated name on this entire list. Tucker has the route-running precision to turn short targets into explosive gains, and the Raiders' offense — whatever form it takes in 2026 — has historically funneled volume to its slot receiver when the underneath game is working. With nearly 119,000 adds, he's not totally under the radar, but he's still available in more leagues than he should be. Tucker was a sparkplug in 2024 when given the chance, and if the Raiders lean on quick-game concepts early, he becomes relevant fast. Rank #179 overall on Sleeper means the algorithm hasn't fully caught up to what Week 1 showed us.

4. Darren Waller, TE, Carolina Panthers

Tight end is the position that breaks fantasy rosters, and Waller's return to relevance in Carolina could be the under-the-radar story of September. Yes, injuries derailed his time away from the field — 2023 with the Giants and his 2024 stint with the Arizona Cardinals were painful to watch for anyone who drafted him. But healthy Waller, playing for a Panthers offense that desperately needs a reliable safety valve, is a different conversation entirely. Carolina's pass-catchers aren't exactly overflowing with proven talent, which means Waller could see red-zone looks and third-down targets that a player of his caliber turns into TE1 weeks. At rank #355 on Sleeper, he's being treated like a throwaway. We think that's wrong, and we're adding him as a TE1 upside play wherever he's available.

5. Keaton Mitchell, RB, Los Angeles Chargers

Mitchell is the name we feel most strongly about on this entire list, and the statistical argument is simple: the Chargers' offensive line has been rebuilt to open lanes, and Mitchell's elite speed is perfectly suited to a zone-heavy rushing scheme. After his ACL torn in December 2023 cost him most of 2024, the football world largely moved on. That's exactly the kind of narrative discount we love to exploit on the waiver wire. He's being added in over 38,000 leagues right now despite sitting at rank #148 — still available in most mid-sized leagues. A back with his breakaway ability in the right system doesn't need a massive volume share to hit flex value. One or two big plays a game changes your week.

The waiver wire in Week 2 is where championship rosters get built — not in August drafts, not at the trade deadline. The managers who are aggressive right now, who trust their process and act before consensus forms, are the ones holding trophies in January. We'll be back with updated adds as the Week 2 injury reports roll in, so bookmark this page and check back Thursday. The next big name is always one snap away from blowing up, and we'll make sure you're the first to know.
